Modeline Floor lamp light 1960s space age retro mid century modern 1950s Eames Herman Miller era
This lamp was found in dirty and torn condition.
I considered buying a new 400 dollar shade, but prefer the original better, even repaired.
Its an early 1960s Martin Aakervik for Modeline of California model 910 floor lamp. 6 feet of solid, sculpted korina wood fram, with eggshell shantung over styrene shade. Internal dual-bulb fixture allows for 3 brightness settings. An absolute work of functional art.
72 inches tall overall frame with a 52 inch tall, inner twin light bulb shade.
Diameter is 11.25 on the shade, 11.75 on the outer band.
The tripod legs taper from 3.0 mid-section to 1.0 inches at the tips
Condition
The Ebony finish appears original, and this unit was cleaned on the inside and outside surfaces.
A tear in the shade was patched, and there are 2 punctures that were taped as well.
If the lamp flaws are against the wall, they are hard to notice.
This lamp probably got knocked over once or twice, causing a tear about 33 inches from the floor.
I use a 1.25 wide linen tape to repair shade edges, and used it to make a patch around the full diameter of this shade.
The tear itself is around almost half the diameter, but I used the linen tape to cover it all the way around.
This repair worked, and I personally would rather have it this way then buy a new shade.
The Modeline FB page can suggest a shade maker, but I like the patina on a vintage shade.
This one has an amber glow to it that only age can provide.
