Skate with US (LTS) Learn To Skate classes offer your skater the opportunity to work on developing skills for ice sports from figure skating to ice hockey as well as recreational skating.
To register, print a registration form above or scroll down and fill out the online form.

Our classes include a 30 minute group skill lesson and 30 minutes of practice time. There are classes available for all ages (3 year olds through adults) and skill levels. Coaches will evaluate the skaters throughout the Session, testing on the 6th week. Some skaters need longer at each level to master the skills, especially younger ones. Some may advance to higher level within the same Session. Our goal is to advance skaters at their own pace, but to also promote skaters who are capable of skating in higher levels.

All Sessions take place at Metro Ice sport Facility: 5100 NW 72ndSt, Urbandale, IA 50322

Now, at the times of the pandemic, finding a relatively safe sport for a kid is an understandable priority for any parent. And this is exactly the situation, where ice skating offers a relative safety advantage compared to many other youth sports.
There are many reasons that make this sport low risk for the virus spread.

(1) Although figure skating is an indoor sport, a singles ice skating is NOT A CONTACT SPORT, and it is held in a very large space, where it is much easier to keep social distancing.
(2) Skaters wear gloves.
(3) In our case, if group settings, we will reduce the number of skaters per group and we will be wearing masks.
(4) It is much easier to enforce mask wearing on a skating rink because in a cold "climate", masks do not present as much breathing difficulty.
(5) Last but not least, figure skating is a sport that can be practiced all the year round, which makes it a great activity for kids, especially now that, due to te pandemic, kids are unable to engage in other high-risk sports and we are unable to take them on vacation as much as we used to.
