Fundraiser: Amber Barrick is a 29 year-old resident of Alden, IA. On 9/29/19 she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). This is a cancer of the blood. In Amber’s case, her body produces few blood cells needed to function and overproduces cancerous cells in the bloodstream. Although Amber is in remission now, Mayo Clinic has determined she has a 65% chance of relapse within two years. At that time her cancer will most likely mutate becoming immune to chemotherapies which are available now and have been effective. There is no guarantee new chemotherapies will be available at that time to combat a more aggressive disease. Amber must undergo a stem cell transplant in order to beat the cancer entirely. Her 24 year-old brother is a match. Amber is waiting to find out when she’ll relocate to Rochester, MN in order to begin treatment and transplant. She’s required to reside in the Rochester city limits for three to six months while undergoing treatment and transplant. As a result, the family has the added costs of the transplant and a secondary residence. Proceeds from the tournament will aid the family in covering these necessary costs.
