The Cool Z ZSA-RV is a 335 clone that is built by Fujigen as the house brand for Japanese music retailer Shimamura (think Japan’s Guitar Center). It features a maple-ply body, lime green, made at the iconic Fujigen Gakki plant, which has made guitars for Fender and others and is regarded as one of the best production instrument makers in the world. The ZSA-RV is a non-catalog limited run model: It’s a semi-hollow, thinline body like an ES-335 with P-90s like an Epiphone Casino.
The neck is awesome, with a great balance between thick and thin, excellent fretwork, and a pleasing natural resonance... it feels great. The Circle Fretting System is unique in that the frets are literally part of an arc. Not only does it help with intonation, but should it ever need a re-fret, normal frets work. Crazy, no?
The hardware is of excellent quality and the pickups deliver a great sound with a percussive, defined attack, sweet and clear top end, an expansive midrange, and nice lows. It's warm and jazzy under a soft touch, or becomes pretty snappy and aggressive when strummed with vigor. I played ‘70s funk with it.
Now, that green finish: It looks outstanding; the vibrant, metallic kermit green is so cool, and paired with some cream plastics and binding and the gold knobs, this is the most swaggertastic semi-hollow you’ll ever own. The back and end photos show the color the best; the front may be a little washed out looking because of the purple background. I thought it would show it off more, but ...

Overall it is in great shape for traveling halfway around the world.
